1. Introduction. In the establishment and management of protected areas (PAs), human communities that have coexisted with the plant and animal communities within a landscape, are often not equally considered as essential elements of the biodiversity to be protected (O’Riordan and Stoll-Kleemann, ).The possible repercussions of such perspectives in conservation decisions can be .
